This policy paper focuses on the aptness of the EU and other stakeholders’ prevention strategies towards violent extremism in Albania. First, the paper will set out the current status of violent extremism and radicalisation that leads to terrorism (VERLT) in Albania. Then, it will describe the myriad of domestic and external preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) strategies and actions implemented in the country. This is followed by an analysis of the adequacy of these initiatives based on their rationale and the identified ‘root causes’ of VERLT in Albania. Lastly, this paper will set out recommendations that help improve the externally funded P/CVE initiatives carried out in Albania.
